FAMILIES GATHER AT SUNWAY LAGOON DURING EARTH HOUR

Blackout Beach BBQ turns theme park’s Surf Beach into a special outdoor dining experience in the dark

More than 50 families gathered at Sunway Lagoon’s Surf Beach for the Blackout Beach BBQ in conjunction with Earth Hour – the global movement encouraging individuals, communities, households, and organizations to turn off all non-essential lighting for one hour as a symbol of commitment to preserving energy on Earth.
Families and friends were welcomed by lighted LED paper bag lights from the entrance to the Surf Beach’s area with a host of games, entertainment and activities for guests, in addition to a barbeque buffet spread, which promoted a time of bonding and togetherness amongst guests.

As this was the first time Sunway Lagoon was celebrating Earth Hour on a large scale, the management of the theme park went all out to ensure a night to remember for all guests. As such, the night’s celebrations at Sunway Lagoon went beyond merely turning off the lights.

Activities of the night’s programme included fire dances accompanied by live percussion, live music performances, Limbo Rock and Hula Hoop Challenge, which not only illuminated the atmosphere around Sunway Lagoon with fun and merriment but enabled guests to spend Earth Hour in a fun and unique manner, with entertainment, games and food!

“We hope to create a positive effect to families around Klang Valley. As the world stand united to their commitment to Earth Hour, we, as a family’s premier theme park, decided to bring families together on this one special night as we believe that a healthy relationship starts within the family,” said Sean Choo, General Manager of Sunway Lagoon.
“Tonight, the affirmation is not only about preserving that one hour of lights for Earth Hour but it’s also about preserving that one memorable night where you truly spend time with your loved ones in a fun and entertaining way,” he added.

The night went pitched black during Earth Hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm and guests were invited to pledge their commitment towards the meaningful night with lighting of the large “60 +” with LED candles.
