Experiencing the Joy of Breastfeeding
Philips AVENT collaborates with AEON Shah Alam to share knowledge and
tips on breastfeeding
In conjunction with
the World Breastfeeding Month, Philips Malaysia recently
collaborated with AEON Shah Alam to organise a Breastfeeding Talk and Awareness
session, covering the recommended practices for successful breastfeeding and a
support system to help care for a newborn infant. Held for AEON Mommy’s Club card members together with their family and
friends, the session was conducted by Gina Yong, a breastfeeding consultant and
author of Love
Breastfeeding at the AEON Lounge in AEON Shah Alam.
“Philips AVENT has been
helping mothers ensure that their children get the benefits of breastmilk for
more than 30 years. We have supported mothers with product innovations, but
more importantly, we have worked with experts to support knowledge sharing that
will help more mothers breastfeed for longer. Through our collaboration with AEON Shah Alam, we are
able to work with Gina Yong to share knowledge on the wonders of breastfeeding
and provide more holistic information and tips to help parents-to-be prepare
for a positive breastfeeding experience for themselves and their babies,” said
Muhammad Ali Jaleel, Country Manager at Philips Malaysia.
“Philips aims to continue making a difference in
people’s lives by providing innovative technology at every different stage of a
person’s life. We offer a holistic range of products from the innovative
Philips AVENT range to kitchen appliances, air purifiers and household
appliances, that are beneficial not just for babies but also for parents and
families, helping them to provide a safe and nurturing home for a newborn,” he
added.
At the Breastfeeding Talk and Awareness session, Gina shared
on the common perceptions of breastfeeding and common situations encountered by
mothers when breastfeeding as well as ways to overcome challenges such as difficulty
latching and biting; breastfeeding myths and also methods and tips for fathers
to provide a positive breastfeeding experience for both mother and child. Gina
also answered questions on breastfeeding from the mothers and fathers at the
end of the session.
“It is every parents’
wish for their child to grow up healthy and strong and understandably, they
want only the best for their child. It is important for mothers to realise that
breastfeeding is a learning experience and is different with every child. Some
may experience difficulty in getting their child to latch or find that their
child bites too hard. They must remember to coax their child gently in an
encouraging tone to provide a sense of security and comfort to the baby. Mums
are not expected to get it right the first time but with the right mindset and
approach, breastfeeding is a beautiful bonding opportunity for mother, father
and child,” Gina said.
One of the participants, 36-year-old salesperson Kenie
Chow who is seven months along with her third child, was able to gain a lot of
insights on breastfeeding. “I did not breastfeed my first child at first due to
several uncertainties but I breastfed my second child and plan to do so for my
third. I see the health benefits of breastfeeding in my children. This session
allows me to speak to Gina and other mothers to address my concerns about
latching and milk discharge.”
Philips also recently held the #AVENTsupportsbreastfeeding campaign in
conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week 2017, which supports the United
Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by linking them to breastfeeding.
