RAPID KL Lights the Way this Deepavali

This Festival of Lights, Rapid KL is sharing the joy of Deepavali across the Klang Valley with exciting cultural activities centred on four stations – KL Sentral, Hang Tuah, Sentul and Pasar Seni. The ‘Light the Way’ campaign kicked off at KL Sentral today with the official launch by Dato’ Sri Azmi Abdul Aziz, Prasarana’s President and Group Chief Executive Officer together with Dato' Ir. Zohari Sulaiman, Chief Executive Officer of Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd and Ismail Abdullah, Kelana Jaya LRT Line Chief Operating Officer.

Adding a special touch to the launch of the campaign were 10 children from the Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home who helped complete the unique kolam centrepiece, specially designed by renowned Malaysian artist and storyteller Ruby Subramaniam. Ruby’s work has been showcased internationally at UNESCO’s World Humanities Conference in Belgium, at exhibitions in London and Paris, and closer to home, in the National Art Gallery. All four stations feature kolam centrepieces designed by Ruby. Additionally, commuters will also be able to enjoy activities hosted at the chosen stations on selected days from today until Deepavali day, such as dhol drum performances and henna art, besides also receiving popular Indian sweet treats.

“Malaysia is a nation connected by our rich cultural and religious heritage and our stations are potential hubs that connect the community across the city centre and suburbs. As we travel through life, embracing the diversity that our community offers and learning more about other cultures can be a way to strengthen social bonds for greater harmony. Through this campaign, we encourage residents in the Klang Valley to share in the joy of Deepavali and head down to our four stations to join the fun activities planned," said Dato’ Sri Azmi Abdul Aziz, Prasarana’s President and Group Chief Executive Officer.

As part of its ongoing CSR focus, Rapid KL is also ‘Lighting the Way’ by educating and encouraging Klang Valley residents of all ages and lifestyles to think consciously about doing their part for the environment for the sake of future generations to come, reducing their carbon footprint such as by taking the train instead of driving. Using the Deepavali activities as a way to draw more Klang Valley residents to try riding the train, Rapid KL hopes to show the comfort and convenience of a train ride.

Commuters can participate in 'Light the Way' activities across the four train stations at the following dates and times:
        14 October 2017, 4pm: KL Sentral
15 October 2017, 11am: Hang Tuah LRT station
        17 October 2017, 11am: Sentul LRT station
18 October 2017, 11am: Pasar Seni MRT station
