STUNNING PRE-LAUNCH OF BORNEO FASHION WEEK 2018

Borneo Fashion Week (BFW) 2018 unveiled a stunning fashion showcase, inspired by the bold and beautiful heritage of Borneo, at the luxurious Diplomat KL - a window into the upcoming BFW 2018 and signifying the fashion week’s evolution into its second year. Themed Luxe White Party, the pre-launch - officiated by Encik Hii Chang Kee, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth & Sports Sarawak - hosted a press conference to introduce guests and the media to its fashion week happenings in September 2018.
The pre-launch offered a glimpse at what’s in store – ethnic inspired fashion collections from local and international designers, promising ten spectacular runway shows, together with some 30 exhibitors of fashion apparels, accessories, textile, healthcare, ethnic craft and lifestyle products, as well as makeup workshops and F&B purveyors - that will run from 7 to 9 September 2018 in magnificent Kuching, the gateway capital of Borneo. Coming together to mark the fashion week’s pre-launch was founder and organiser Stephanie Alcantara and a host of renowned fashion designers from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Cambodia.

It was an intimate initiation to the upcoming fashion event, and to Kuching as a leading fashion destination, ‘bringing Borneo to the world’ through an extravagant fashion showcase.

In her welcome note, Stephanie Alcantara said, “We are excited to introduce to the world many talented designers from the land of the hornbills for the second time around. Borneo Fashion Week is an integral component in promoting the island’s fashion industry and heritage. BFW embodies the true cultural diversity of Borneo through the creative talent of emerging and established designers, catapulting them onto a global platform. It is in our best interest how the industry develops and matures, in particular the advantages offered to our designers and brands.”

Encik Hii Chang Kee, in his speech added, “The Sarawak government recognises the enormous talent we have in our local fashion industry. As such, we are very pleased to be able to support an event like BFW in its pursuit to help promote designers and brands both on the local and international stage.”

The evening continued with an exclusive video presentation of BFW 2018, highlighting participating designers, selected based on their diverse and versatile appeal in reflecting the essence of Borneo, and their creations; attractive hotel and travel packages; and three coveted awards – the BFW Emerging Designer of the Year 2018, BFW Designer of the Year 2018, and Most Promising Sarawak Designer 2018. Designers’ creations will be judged by a panel of fashion specialists from the Limkokwing University. In keeping with the youth engagement direction, BFW 2018 will also introduce the much sought-after award, the Limkokwing Fashion Design Scholarship worth more than RM100,000.
