Asia to watch the Philadelphia 76ers and the Dallas Mavericks live~
The Jr. NBA
Malaysia 2018 programme culminated with 16 budding Malaysian Jr. NBA All-Stars
travelling to Shanghai, China to participate in advanced basketball training and
catch the NBA China Games 2018 featuring the Dallas Mavericks and the
Philadelphia 76ers.
This year, a
total number of 96 Jr. NBA All-Stars representing Indonesia, Malaysia,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam ages 10-14 attended the NBA China
Games 2018 that saw the NBA All-Star Joel Embiid, 2017-18 Rookie of the Year
Ben Simmons, and the Philadelphia 76ers compete against NBA Champion Dirk
Nowitzki, NBA All-Rookie Second Team Dennis Smith Jr., NBA Draft 2018
third-overall pick Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Aside from
experiencing advanced basketball instruction, Jr. NBA All-Stars enjoyed the opportunity
to meet NBA Champion and 2-time NBA All-Star Caron Butler.
In an effort to
further promote basketball in the country, the Jr. NBA Malaysia program was
staged across Peninsular Malaysia through the Jr. NBA Coaches Academy where
over 1,500 school teachers from 900 schools were equipped with basketball
knowledge to be passed on to students.
The participants
were taught the fundamentals of the game and instilled the Jr. NBA’s S.T.A.R.
values of sportsmanship, teamwork, a positive attitude and respect—valuable
lessons applicable on the court and in life. Jr. NBA Malaysia presented by
Dutch Lady also exposed its participants to the importance of proper nutrition
and lifestyle, such as the consumption of two glasses of milk per day for
sufficient calcium and protein.
“We are extremely happy to bring another batch of Jr.
NBA All-Stars on an overseas trip to provide an intercultural exchange with the
passionate, talented youth of Southeast Asia while bringing the NBA closer by
experiencing the NBA China Games 2018 live,” said Jim Wong, Associate Vice
President of Global Marketing Partnerships at NBA Asia. “We hope the lessons
learned and friendships made during this trip will leave a lasting impression
on them for years to come.”
At present, the
Jr. NBA Asia program has reached over five million children and coaches across
Southeast Asia through camps, Jr. NBA Coaches Academy and the NBA Cares
community outreach activities.
