Lazada Leng Chais and ‘Dates’ Bring Chinese New Year ‘Reunion’ to Seniors
Lazada Malaysia’s ‘Slash’
the Leng Chai campaign recently culminated in a reunion luncheon between the 8 leng chais, their ‘dates’ and senior
citizens of St. Mary’s Nursing Home in Taman Persiaran Desa. ‘Slash’ the Leng Chai was a Chinese New Year initiative
by Lazada where shoppers from around Klang Valley ‘slashed’ to bring ‘home’ a date
for Chinese New Year. In a twist of events, the ‘date’ takes place in the form
of a ‘reunion’ with residents of a nursing home.
Andrew Gnananantham, Chief Marketing Officer of
Lazada Malaysia said, “At Lazada, it is important for us to stay close to our
consumers beyond our services as an eCommerce player. This festive season, we
wanted to bring people together via our social shopping feature ‘Slash It’.
Shoppers were able to share their Lazada experience with friends and family by
helping one another to ‘slash’ the leng
chai of their choice. We are also glad to be able to extend this joy to a
part of our community who needs it most.”
From 16 to 18 January 2019, ‘Slash’ the Leng Chai enabled shoppers in Klang
Valley to slash the price of a ‘date’ for Chinese New Year from RM8,888.88 to
zero on the Lazada app to take ‘home’ one of 8 leng chais – Dennis Yin, Varhoon Vystra, Adery Chin, Joseph Lee,
Nigel Chin, Cyrus Yong, Eden See, and Ilman Hakeem.
Festivities kicked off with a reunion
luncheon followed by a captivating Lion Dance performance. The Leng chais and their ‘dates’ also tossed
yee sang with senior citizens while making
wishes for health and prosperity in the coming lunar year. The rest of the afternoon
was spent getting to know the seniors and their stories through rounds of
mahjong and karaoke, among other activities.
St. Mary’s Nursing Home houses a total of 25 residents from the
ages of 50 to 96 years. The nursing home provides care tailored towards
individual needs, as residents at the home are either under long-term or
temporary care. Some of its locations assist and support those suffering from dementia,
Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, as well as young ones with learning or
physical difficulties.
