STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN ZOO MELAKA AND SUNWAY THEME PARKS ON ANIMAL CONSERVATION

Sunway Theme Parks and Zoo Melaka kicked off their strategic partnership on animal conservation with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony in regards to the exchange of animals between the two parties.

To begin this strategic partnership, one female giraffe from Zoo Melaka will be transferred to Sunway Theme Parks’ establishment, Sunway Lost World Of Tambun under breeding loan with the hope that it will breed new bloodline of giraffes and to increase the number of giraffes in the world. In return, Sunway Theme Parks through its establishment, Sunway Lagoon will be loaning White Tiger to Zoo Melaka.

Mohd Rafee Bin Ibrahim, Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran Hang Tuah Jaya said, “This MOU signing is the first step by both parties in upholding the animal conservation effort currently undertaken by both Zoo Melaka and Sunway Theme Parks. I sincerely hope that this effort will be the catalyst for other institutions to work closely together towards the same goal”.

This is a start of long-list planned animal transfers that will take place throughout this year until next year. All the animal transfers will be done in the spirit of animal conservation and the hope of breeding new bloodline to introduce more of the animals to the public.

Calvin Ho, Senior General Manager of Sunway Theme Parks said ‘’Both our Theme Parks aim to create more edutainment programmes for an ever evolving audience with interactive sessions and tours, also allowing our guests to have close encounters with rare species that can only been viewed through a digital screen. It is our hope that this partnership will resonate with other zoological institutions as we create more sustainable and experiential moments for citizens of this world.’’

The transfer of giraffe to Sunway Lost World of Tambun is set to take place this month and the journey will be through the North South Highway. The arrival of White Tiger to Zoo Melaka is targeted to be after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri break and public can catch a glimpse of the white tiger during the year end school holidays only at Zoo Melaka.
