RED HONG YI AND PETER TABICHI HIT THE HEART OF EDUCATION AT THIS YEAR’S LEAPS OF KNOWLEDGE CONFERENCE

Early bird tickets go on sale on 10 September 2019

The Leaps of Knowledge Conference is back again this year to invite everyone to be a game changer in education and empower them to raise resilient leaders who are able to reimagine what could be, and have the confidence to pursue that vision. Set in J.W. Marriott Kuala Lumpur, this year’s Leaps of Knowledge Conference aims to inspire a sense of purpose and joy in learning by changing hearts and shaping minds through a series of keynotes and seminars featuring innovators and shapers in education.

“This year, we want to bring it back to the heart of what it is all about. Our HEART values are very important because they come back to what we do and why we do it. We are here to make a difference. We have seen so many teachers and schools who have been transformed since embarking on a journey with us on our platform. We have a larger story and we have a lot more to offer,” said Lou Yeoh, Executive Director of FrogAsia.

FrogAsia believes that with the right character, creative spirit and drive for excellence, lifelong learners can thrive. Themed around HEART, this year’s conference will see a variety of impactful leaders and likeminded people gathered to inspire and empower everyone to shape education. Red Hong Yi and Peter Tabichi are among the speakers who will share their HEART for education.

Red Hong Yi is a Malaysian artist and architectural designer who focuses on the reinterpretation of everyday materials for her work through the accumulation of objects. She is known for using everyday objects and materials for her paintings and art installations. Therefore, just as FrogAsia aims to inspire the reimagination of education, she will be empowering attendees to think ahead and out of the box, innovating new avenues for growth. FrogAsia believes that education is not one-dimensional and can be nurtured in various ways. Hong Yi’s story of her childhood, education and growth can inspire educators in helping learners explore their gifts, talents and learning styles.
Global Teacher Prize 2019 Winner, Peter Tabichi is a Kenyan science teacher who gives away 80% of his monthly income to help the poor. In a region where drought and famine are frequent, 95% of pupils hail from poor families, almost a third are orphans or have only one parent, and many go without food at home. Peter turned the lives of his students around in a school with only one computer, poor internet connectivity and a student-teacher ratio of 58:1. His story of using sports to unite students from various tribes also speaks volumes of how education is more than what is done within the classroom. FrogAsia believes that inspiring individuals like Peter will encourage educators to go back to why they do what they do in order to find joy and satisfaction in pursuing the vision of education wherever they are. His story carries an important message - that of empowerment and beating the odds in and through education.

“When we first started and was new in Malaysia, technology and education in government schools was not what it is today. It was a huge mindset shift for someone to adopt something new, especially new technology. After 7 years, we built a huge community of teachers who finally tried it, really loved it and began advocating for it, while pioneering usage on the way. They started to connect and meet, find a purpose together as well as help and learn from each other. We were inspiring them before but now we are celebrating how they inspire us,” added Lou.

Leaps of Knowledge is an annual conference for students, teachers and parents organised by FrogAsia and supported by YTL Foundation. This conference is held in the hopes of making a difference in classrooms and communities as well as contributing to the education infrastructure in Malaysia. Over the past 5 years, Leaps of Knowledge has seen a total of 20,000 attendees from across the country. Attendees will be able to attend sharing sessions by impactful speakers and teachers will be able to attend workshops to upskill themselves in teaching and learning techniques. Meals are also provided for attendees.

Priced at RM120, early bird tickets are set to go on sale on 10 September 2019. Public school teachers are entitled to discounted tickets sold at RM60. Beginning 1 November 2019, tickets will be sold at standard rates of RM260, so those interested are urged to visit www.leapsofknowledge.com to purchase tickets soon.
