A Touch of Compassion for Children in Need
RMHC and McDonald’s Malaysia connects with less fortunate
children in a day out, ahead of the holy month of Ramadhan
There are some
experiences that are truly money-can’t buy; particularly childhood experiences
that are remembered fondly long after they occur. For some 60 children from
Rumah Anak Yatim Sungai Kantan, Kajang, getting up close and personal with
animals in the ‘Farm in the City’ petting zoo was one such experience.
From sharing a snack of
fresh vegetables with a venerable tortoise to frolicking with colorful birds in
the aviary, this was the children’s’ first ever interaction with exotic animals
– the first in a few stops on a day out billed ‘Sentuhan Kasih’. Organised by McDonald’s Malaysia and Ronald McDonald House
Charities (RMHC), ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ is part of McDonald’s and RMHC’s community
engagement efforts involving volunteers from McDonald’s Malaysia and RMHC
members.
“It gives us so much
joy to be able to spend the day with all these children and to see the smiles
on their faces. McDonald’s Malaysia strongly believes in the positive impact
that RMHC has on children in need, through various programs including today’s
‘Sentuhan Kasih’ event,” said Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director/ Operating Partner
of McDonald’s Malaysia and President of RMHC Malaysia.
Established in Malaysia
in 1990 as a non-profit organisation, RMHC is McDonald’s Malaysia’s charity of
choice and helps children in need through four core programmes – the Ronald
McDonald House, Gift of Smile, Ronald McDonald Sensory Room and RMHC
Scholarship programme.
“As Malaysia’s
favourite family restaurant, McDonald’s is proud to contribute to the great
work that RMHC does. We remain committed to supporting the organization as we
in turn give back to the communities where we live, work and play,” added
Azmir.
Accompanied by 30
McDonald’s Malaysia volunteers and RMHC members, the children were also treated
to a shopping spree for baju raya at AEON Equine Park and a scrumptious lunch
at a nearby McDonald’s restaurant. To top it off, the children’s home also
received a contribution of RM5,000.00 from RMHC Malaysia.

About RMHC Malaysia and McDonald’s
As McDonald’s
‘charity of choice’, McDonald's Malaysia supports RMHC Malaysia by funding its
annual operating costs such as office facilities, equipment and materials. This
means every sen received by the non-profit organization goes directly to
Malaysian children in need of assistance. Although McDonald's Malaysia is the
largest corporate donor to RMHC, the support of local groups and various
organizations, volunteers and corporations is still vital for RMHC to
successfully execute its programmes.
