Thrilling finale to Borneo Fashion Week 2018
Winners of seven coveted fashion awards revealed & a showcase of luxury resort wear
as curtains come down on the fashion week
Borneo Fashion Week (BFW) 2018 came to a thrilling end with
the recognition of five designers and two runway models for exceptional talent in the fashion
industry, plus an exclusive showcase of luxury resort wear at Cove 55, a private sanctuary at the
foot of Mount Santubong. The event brought curtains down in stunning style on what has been a
spectacular three-day fashion extravaganza of runway shows and an exhibition with a line-up of
over 30 fashion designers from West and East Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and
Iran.
In true BFW custom, guests were whisked away to the luxurious villa, which provided the perfect
setting for the evening, overlooking the tranquil South China Sea and the lush Mount Santubong as
backdrop. Lining up the entrance to welcome guests were models in traditional attire of Dayak,
Iban and Bidayuh heritage – an embodiment of the fashion week’s primary aspiration of ‘bringing
Borneo to the world.’ The spotlight at BFW 2018 has invariably been its exquisite
heritage-inspired fashion, craft and lifestyle brands, with a spotlight on 16 Borneo designers and
exhibitors, showcasing at the exhibition platform.
The exclusive evening commenced with a runway show of refined luxe resort wear from four
phenomenal designers, each one of them conveying a distinct aesthetic, blending Asian influences
and elegant simplicity with luscious textiles and silhouettes. As the sun began to set illuminating
the sky in a palette of brilliant hues, models energised the poolside runway in immaculate designs.
Indu Borneo – 1960s retro chic mingles with vivid prints and tones in comfortable cuts, paired with
bold handcrafted earrings.
Uvanes Vary – beautiful organza dominates in opulently feminine silhouettes in this ethnic Indian
collection.
Yacutha Borneo – BFW 2017 Emerging Designer brings glamour to resort wear through silk wrap
dresses, beach kaftans and handmade accessories, embellished with bold beads.
WYNKA – a collaboration of two creative minds behind an elegant and graceful couture collection.
The night’s biggest highlight was the presentation of seven coveted awards – BFW Designer in
the Spotlight 2018; BFW Model of the Year – Male, BFW Model of the Year – Female; BFW
Emerging Borneo Designer of the Year 2018; two BFW Most Promising Designer of The Year
2018 awards and BFW Designer of the Year 2018 - to deserving designers and models,
recognised for their outstanding talent and contribution to the industry, specifically during the
fashion week. Fashion designers, whose collections made a style-conscious impact through
innovative designs, displaying a daring use of colour and traditional prints, motifs and movement,
were acknowledged for their fresh approach.
In keeping with its core aim to nurture and cultivate local talents, Borneo Fashion Week is proud to
be in partnership with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology to award two exclusive
scholarships to up and coming ready-to-wear (RTW) designers at this year’s fashion week. The
Diploma and Degree scholarships in fashion design worth more than RM100,000 were awarded to
