SCHOOL’S OUT. “IT’S WIPEOUT”
School holiday is here. Yeah... Can see the happiness of all the kids. A question that often comes to mind is how to
allocate one’s budget to maximise pleasure. Research shows that people
experience much more joy spending money on experiences as opposed to material
items from a shopping spree.
A study conducted by Cornell University in USA
measured how adaptation affects happiness by asking people to self-report their
happiness with major material versus experiential purchases. The result turned
out to be counterintuitive, where a lasting physical object does not keep one
as happy as long as a once-and-done experience does. Why is that so?
Ironically, while the happiness from material
purchases diminishes over time as it fades into the background among other
possessions, memories of experiences become an ingrained part of our identity. In
addition, shared experiences create ties that binds. People are more likely to
feel connected with someone they took vacation with than someone who also
happens to have bought the same smartphone. Hence, happiness lasts longer and
is multiplied by investing in life experiences.
This holiday
season, families and friends can now spend a joyful and
memorable time at Sunway Lagoon, Malaysia’s premier theme park is gearing up for a grand
festive celebration like never before. From 1st to 30 December 2018,
Sunway Lagoon’s “It’s Wipe Out” holiday celebration will feature exciting
activities and events planned for visitors of all ages. The park will be open
for extended hours until 9pm every weekend (Fri, Sat and Sun from 1 to 22 Dec) and
daily from 23 to 30 Dec 2018.
Visitors at the
park in December can expect to be thrilled and entertained by a barrage of
events and goings-on. These include the Party Zone @ Mali Cove where guests
will be entertained by a DJ as well as a variety of shows and performances.

Challenge @ Mali Cove featuring floating inflatables. Daily winners will walk
away with a JBL Clip 2 worth RM368 and the Overall Champion for the month will

Meanwhile the little
ones can have a blast at the Kids Zone @ Mali Cove which boasts a foam pool, a
ball pool and a floatie toys pool. And it’s MUSICAL Pool time!! Not to be
missed is Santa’s Afternoon Tea at Beach Bistro.
On days with
extended opening hours, visitors can fuel their activity-filled day at Sunway
Lagoon’s Beach Bistro which will feature a special BBQ dinner that is
guaranteed to give visitors a mouth-watering holiday barbeque feast. The fun,
however, does not stop. While adults pit their skills at Sunway Lagoon’s very
own Flow Rider and Dunking Machine activities, the little ones can enjoy a
bounciful playtime at the gigantic Inflatable Castle where they will be able to
live out their fantasies.
However, the
highlight of the night programme will definitely be Sunway Lagoon’s first ever
Night Parade happening at 7.30pm. This event surely is not to be missed,
featuring a fanfare which includes Captain and Lady Quack decked in Christmas
attire, unicyclists, jugglers, balloon bearers, a DJ truck etc.
