The inaugural Indian Fashion Festival (IFF) 2018 - Catwalk with a Cause
This socially responsible fashion event aims to be a pioneering platform for Indian
designers and is in aid of Yayasan Sejahtera
The press conference of the inaugural Indian
Fashion Festival (IFF) 2018 held earlier this week at the chic V E Hotel & Residence,
Bangsar South - unveiled a stunning fashion presentation, inspired by the bold and beautiful
Indian heritage, giving guests and media present a peek into the upcoming IFF 2018. Themed
Catwalk with a Cause, IFF 2018 goes beyond its fashion focus to serve as a socially
responsible fashion event in aid of Yayasan Sejahtera. The press conference was attended by
Yayasan Sejahtera trustee, Puan Sri Ng Siew Yong Gnanalingam together with Miss
Shanmugha Selvi, Founder of IFF 2018, signifying the fashion festival’s upcoming initiation
on 31st December 2018.
The press conference also offered a glimpse at what’s in store – IFF 2018 as a pioneering
platform for Indian fashion presenting five local designers and brands - Ardana Haran,
JK Homme, Loveetha, SS Couture, Vini G and Chennai based celebrity designer Sidney
Sladen, promising a spectacular runway show on a unique, purpose built ramp-on-water,
together with an exhibition and sample sales from the designers’ ready-to-wear collections.
The night will unfurl on New Year’s Eve with a red-carpet four course dinner gala featuring
musical performances, an after-party and an exciting new year countdown to usher in 2019 in
glamorous style at the V E Hotel & Residence.
In her welcome note, Shanmugha Selvi founder and fashion designer (behind SS Couture)
said, “We are excited to introduce for the first time a fashion festival of this magnitude and
significance featuring world-class collections. We want the festival to kick off as an integral
component in promoting some of the country’s best fashion talents. IFF 2018 embodies the
true spirit and heritage of the Indian culture and fashion – its vibrancy, beauty and elegancethrough
the creations of emerging and established designers from Malaysia and India,
catapulting them onto a global platform. It is in our best interest how the Indian fashion
industry develops and matures, in particular the advantages offered to our designers and
brands.”
Notably, IFF 2018 is an event with a purpose that is to raise funds for Yayasan Sejahtera, a
foundation with notable trustees from various fraternities dedicated to addressing hardcore
poverty in line with two National Key Result Areas – raising the living standard of
low-income households and improving basic rural infrastructure. Proceeds from the event
will be channelled towards Yayasan Sejahtera.
Puan Sri Ng Siew Yong Gnanalingam, in her speech added, “We at Yayasan Sejahtera are
deeply humbled to have been the chosen foundation and to have been recognised for the work
we do for society’s most vulnerable communities. At Sejahtera, we strive to seek ways to
eradicate poverty in Malaysia. And with the funds raised through IFF 2018 – a creative,
fashion platform- we can work towards this objective by equipping individuals with the basic
living necessities through awareness, realisation and opportunities.”
The evening continued with Sidney Sladen’s video message from India revealing his
showstopper at the upcoming IFF 2018 would be none other than Miss Bindhu Madhavi, a
popular South Indian actress and recent reality show, Big Boss fame.
Loveetha is the event’s main sponsor, joined by V E Hotel & Residence as the official hotel
partner, Grooming & Etiquette Studio as the runway coach, R.Yogash as the show
