FROGASIA PROVIDES READY-TO-USE AND CREDIBLE, TEACHING AND LEARNING CONTENT WITH BOOST SITES
By May 2019, all content
standards for all core subjects in primary and secondary syllabi
to be available to teachers and students nationwide
Teachers across Malaysia will soon
have greater support for their Blended Learning practices and students’
self-directed learning, with FrogAsia aiming to create Boost Sites for all
content standards in all core subjects, across primary and secondary schools –
inclusive of SK, SMK, SJKC and SJKT syllabus requirements, by May 2019.
In a
collaboration between FrogAsia and the Pelangi Publishing Group as well as
Subject Expert Teachers, there will be an estimated 3,620 Boost Sites created,
accessible to all teachers and students nationwide. Boost Sites are
high-quality subject-based learning packages mapped to the Malaysian curriculum
and covering the entire syllabus from Standard 1 to Form 5.
“In
21st Century education, the integration of elements like
collaboration, communication and creativity isn’t necessarily limited to
students. With Boost Sites and FrogMaker events, we are making it easier for
teachers to meet like-minded peers, share best practices and discuss ways to
improve learning outcomes. Through Boost Sites, they can impart knowledge
learnt and honed in real-life scenarios, thus enabling newer teachers to
benefit from this combined repository of knowledge, in the form of ready-to-use
teaching and learning content,” said Lou Yeoh, Executive Director of FrogAsia.
Accessible
through the Boost Application on the Frog Virtual Learning Environment
platform’s quick launch feature, Boost Sites are designed to support teachers
and students in teaching and learning. Each Boost Site has four components:
learning standards and goals; lesson resources; activities; and quizzes for
formative and summative assessment – which teachers can download and use for
their classes, and students can directly access for learning and revision.
With Boost Sites,
teachers and students both benefit from the wealth of available material that
allow teachers to save time with ready-to-use lessons and quizzes, while
students have quick access to a bigger repository of fun, trusted learning and
revision material that incorporates games in assessments. These have been found
to motivate independent learning and self-initiated revision, which in turn was
found to improve quiz results up to 46% in only 2 months!
Cikgu Hanafi Asdi of SMKA Tun Said in
Kota Belud, Sabah
attests to the popularity of the Boost Sites. “We used the Boost Sites for
lessons in class. The students loved them, especially when they play the games
in practice. They went back and
downloaded all the content Sites to learn on their own!” he said. This was
echoed by Cikgu Mohd Khamarul Idzwan
Othman of SK Serdang in Serdang, Selangor, who shared: “With parents’
support and encouragement to access Frog Boost, I see the impact not only on
the students’ progress, but also on
their approach towards the Frog VLE as a tool to help them learn more.”
Teachers too greatly appreciate Boost, such as Cikgu Odah Tai of SMK Titingan in Tawau, Sabah, who said: “I have
been using Boost Sites during my 'teach-in' replacement classes when respective
teachers are on sick leave or attending a course or meeting. It is so easy to use!”
While the core
content for Boost Sites is provided by Pelangi, expert teachers can contribute
additional content that can help students learn better. Less experienced
teachers can benefit from this wealth of knowledge simply by accessing Boost
Sites, which make it easier to prepare for classes with ready-to-use content
aligned with the national syllabus.
Sharing her
enthusiasm for the FrogMaker events, Cikgu
Farah Ahmad of SK Jalan Raja Muda in Kuala Lumpur said: “Personally, it’s an eye opening
experience for me as I get to learn how other teachers create quality sites and
adapt materials to suit our students’ needs in the classroom. FrogMaker is
definitely an awesome professional learning
community and platform! It’s a great opportunity to learn and collaborate with other teachers so that we can inspire
each other and meeting teachers with the same interests is always something we
look forward to.”
To create Boost
Sites, the FrogAsia team holds FrogMaker events attended by experienced subject
teachers (who become Frog Content Advocates) from across the country, which
allows for collaboration among subject experts and the formation of a community
of teachers that can connect and support each other in developing better
teaching and learning content. At FrogMaker events, teachers are taken through
the Ice Blended module that teaches them how to create Boost Sites to support
the Blended Learning educational approach. In the process of creating new Boost
Sites, the Template Sites are reviewed by subject expert teachers during
FrogMaker events.
