143 CHILDREN JOIN HANDS FOR MOTHER NATURE AT LWOT

Putting the United Nations’ (UN) global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into practice, Sunway Lost World of Tambun (LWOT) has stepped up to achieve Quality Education (Goal #4) and Climate Action (Goal #13) goals by educating 143 children in Ipoh on the importance of waste management for a better and healthier environment for the future generation.
To cultivate good daily habits and inculcate conservation knowledge among children from a young age, LWOT has jointly worked with Sunway University to conduct educational environmental workshop sessions at Q-dees centres in Ipoh, Bandar Seri Botani and Meru respectively to raise awareness on the significance of waste management and conservation.
Student volunteers from Sunway University and LWOT’s visits to the Q-dees centres further enlightened the children through interactive and edutaining activities such as demonstrations on ways to manage and correctly sort daily-produced waste into the designated recycling bins, which the children also partook in.  Informative boards outlining UN’s goals and a set of recycling bins were also placed at the three Q-dees centres to encourage recycling. LWOT will actively be in touch with the principal of each centre to closely monitor the children’s progress in adopting recycling habits.
“We are consistently looking for ways to achieve something great especially when it comes to sustainability. This year, we have decided to take a step further by instilling the importance of conserving the environment with children, as they are the future leaders who will strive towards the betterment of our Earth. The placement of the SDG boards and recycle bins act as a daily reminder to continue to do good for Mother Nature. We may not see the results immediately, but this is our way of taking small steps towards a big goal,” said Nurul Nuzairi Mohd Azahari, General Manager of Sunway Lost World Of Tambun.

“In efforts to achieve United Nations’ global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the year 2030, all plastic straws will be officially banned from our theme park with immediate effect and more SDG initiatives will be implemented by LWOT in the coming months through engaging the surrounding community,” he added.

LWOT will be unveiling its new attraction, Asia’s First two-and-a-half-storey Water-Based Dark Ride estimated to be completed in September 2019. Together with Sunway College Ipoh, LWOT has created a platform for students majoring in Foundation In Arts (FIA) to have the opportunity to contribute their ideas for the layout of the new water attraction.
