CODE OF GOOD GOVERNANCE AWARD 2019 FOR NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION
The National Kidney Foundation of
Malaysia (NKF) was recently awarded with the Code of Good Governance by the
Registry of Societies Malaysia (ROS). The award was presented to NKF by YB Datuk
Mohd Azis bin Jamman, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in conjunction with
Himpunan Sinergi Pertubuhan Kebangsaan 2019 (HiPER’19) held in Muar, Johor.
The Code of Good Governance for
Organisations (COGG) programme was introduced in 2017 by ROS which recognises
excellence in organisational compliance with the five principles of code of
good governance outlined by ROS. Organisations were evaluated based on their
performances in fulfilling their roles and aims as well as maintaining the
quality of control, efficiency, transparency, integrity and their actions.
Receiving the award on behalf of NKF
Malaysia was Mr Chua Hong Wee, CEO of NKF. NKF was one of the four
organisations who won this award out of the 40 organisations in Malaysia that
were evaluated by ROS for COGG 2019.
“NKF is truly delighted to receive the
recognition, which certainly bears testament to the tireless efforts championed
by the often-unsung heroes at NKF towards our combined efforts to fight
kidney-related disease while increasing public awareness about kidney health. This
recognition by the ROS will motivate us to continue promoting kidney health passionately
and helping various stakeholders to improve the management and treatment of
kidney disease nationwide,” said Mr Chua.
Celebrating its 50th
anniversary this year, NKF Malaysia has proven to be a robust champion of
kidney health since its establishment in 1969. Its strong commitment in increasing
public knowledge towards maintaining kidney health while striving to raise the
standards of care to kidney disease patients has helped 1,700 NKF patients
nationwide improve the quality of their lives. Annually, NKF requires RM24.9
million to subsidise the dialysis treatments costs for its patients who seek
treatment at its 28 dialysis centres nationwide.
It has also been actively involved with
incorporating and conducting fundraising, public education, training and
welfare initiatives as they champion kidney health and lead the battle in
Malaysia against kidney disease. In July, the NGO organised the NKF Glow Run, a
luminous 5-kilometre fun-run decked with neon lights in Serdang which included
over 3,000 participants.
Among some of the other recent major
initiatives towards its noble goals include NKF’s annual Open Day, World Kidney
Day celebration, Patient Forum and Green Pen Organ Donation Project to increase
awareness and battling kidney disease. Social media campaigns such as
#SihatBersama and #GreenWednesday were also launched to promote healthy living
amongst Malaysians as well as educating the public on organ donation and organ
transplantation.
