Winners of Mutiara Hills Sculpture Design Challenge Celebrated at Prize Presentation

Want to know who are the winners for Mutiara Hills Sculpture Design Challenge 2023? The champion and the runners-up organised by Mutiara Spaces, a brand by Boustead Properties Berhad were honoured today at a prize presentation ceremony to celebrate their innovative and sustainable-minded efforts to create a landmark sculpture for the Mutiara Hills township. The ceremony took place amidst the warm and welcoming atmosphere of a Mutiara Hills Hari Raya open house held at the township’s Sales Gallery in Semenyih.

The grand prize of RM8,000 cash was bagged by Syamirul Alif Bin Shaharudin and Mohd Ali Kouli, both second-year architecture students from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, whose outstanding design named Unison Sculpture captivated the esteemed judges for its simplicity and elegance that unified many aspects of nature and modern sculpture. Upon its completion, the sculpture will reach an approximate height of 10 metres, which is equivalent to a three-storey building, with active solar panels and rainwater harvesting features that will contribute towards greening the environment at the township.

When asked how the duo would spend the prize money, they replied, “We are honoured and grateful to be crowned as the champion of this competition. Our heartfelt thanks go to our supervisor, Ar. Zalena, and Dr. Noriati Taib, for their invaluable guidance and unwavering support. With the prize money of RM8,000, we plan to participate in more art and architecture competitions locally and at an international level. This exciting opportunity will allow us to develop our skills and creativity further, and we are confident that it will pave the way for even greater achievements in the future.

Winners of the second and third prizes, Mohd Pirdaus Beddu and Siti Sarah Binti Mohammed Saidi from USM Penang and Nur Izzah Kamilia Binti Mohd Khalil Akmal from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) received RM 3,000 and RM 2,000, respectively.

According to Boustead Properties Chief Executive Officer Khairul Azizi Ismail, “Today’s event was held to recognise and reward the creativity and dedication of the winners. It is also a celebration of what the future holds for young talent in Malaysia and how they play a part in shaping an environment where communities can flourish.”

“Developing young talent and instilling a sustainable mindset are key to our agenda of being a conscientious green property developer that aims to create spaces that can nurture and raise quality of life. We look forward to more such initiatives with universities that are premised on sustainability.”

As part of their well-deserved victory, the winning team will have the unique opportunity to participate in Mutiara Spaces' industry talent programme, aimed at providing students with real-life working experience. They will be mentored by the developer's project development team in the creation of the sculpture, involving tasks such as detail drawing production, tender process and documentation, value engineering, manufacturing, and installation processes. The industry exposure exercise is set to commence in June of this year and is expected to last for approximately 20 weeks, concluding upon completion of the construction.

Furthermore, the programme will provide an avenue to engage and establish connections with Boustead Properties professionals, opening doors for them to explore potential career paths and gain valuable insights.

The Mutiara Hills Sculpture Design Challenge 2023 received nearly 72 registrations from 12 universities across Malaysia. The challenge, which was premised on sustainability and innovation, invited local university students to submit their design ideas in line with the theme of "Synergies between Nature and Buildings for Future Communities."

The winning sculpture will be an iconic landmark in the heart of Mutiara Hills, the developer’s latest integrated smart township project located in Semenyih.
